Arne, then ship some other higher quality fonts by default. To work around these bugs (originally #199557), although it's most likely a duplicate as Manuel says) I use Liberation fonts, although the view is still a bit blurred. DejaVu Sans with these settings looks completely odd, I think most users would agree. I don't mind any default, but the problem is that you cannot easily change it from GUI, no matter if you select full or medium select hinting, the problem still persists. Or maybe you expect ordinary users to tweak config files in /etc/fonts?
