Changes in laptop-mode can not fix this, because laptop-mode is disabled by default.
Even if enabled, you still have to explicitly set CONTROL_HD_POWERMGMT=1 in the configuration of laptop-mode. BTW the reason why laptop-mode is fixing this problem is, that if the latter option is set, it calls hdparm -B with sane parameters. So it does the same as suggested before as a fix. (But laptop-mode can not be enabled by default, because it is for laptops and because some models just freeze with it.) Anyway, I blogged the solutions, I hope this gets resolved before Hardy... http://www.gablog.eu/online/node/53 -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
