It seems that the USB mass storage device is in fact mounted. On the other hand, KDE never displays the "new removable media" dialog box and a few KDE apps do in fact hang. Amarok suffers quite a bit from this bug, as it not only hangs but it also, after killing the process, keeps on hanging when being relaunched.
