Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: blender

if you don't have 3d support enabled or are using a generic graphics
driver, opening up blender from the applications menu doesn't do
anything. however launching from the command line spits out the useful
info you need to debug.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ blender
Using Python version 2.4
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
ERROR: Unable to open Blender window

it would be nice to die with a graphical error.

** Affects: blender (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
