@Ted Gould For me, DPMS was enabled by default. I never did anything to turn DPMS on. I did a fresh install of Kubuntu, booted into it, and immediately the screen was going blank every few minutes (when no input received). No GUI settings I could find regarding screen savers or power management could stop it from happening.
