In Hardy with all current updates the mentioned workaround doesn't work
flawless anymore. At the first stage of the boot process where the
progress bar of the splash screen goes back and forth between left and
right everything seems as usual. But when the progress bar normally
would change to the "report boot progress mode" (I don't know how to
describe it better ;) ) the entire splash screen disappears and only a
blinking text cursor is shown which changes it's screen position wildly
during the continueing boot process. The start of the X-server works but
all TTYs show likewise only a blinking cursor but nothing else
(allthough they seem to work, if I do a "blind" login, the cursor
changes it's position as it would do when text would be displayed). I
have not found a way to get the splash working properly so far.

Kind regards,
Jan
