I get this as well on a system with 64bit Ubuntu and 8gb ram. I get this
when dragging an image from the desktop to Gimp or from Firefox to the
desktop. My syslog looks similar to Anders':

syslog:

Mar 13 22:23:43 isis pulseaudio[6130]: module-gconf.c: Unable to read or parse
data from client.
Mar 13 22:23:43 isis gdm[5751]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X
error - Restarting :0
Mar 13 22:23:45 isis kernel: [ 4751.053605] mtrr: type mismatch for
d0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining

In auth.log:

Mar 13 22:23:43 isis gdm[5751]: pam_unix(gdm:session): session closed
for user henrik

Setting the priority to High since this will cause data loss.
