I just installed Hardy Alpha 6 on a brand new machine and ran into this same error:
BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#1 stuck for 11s! The system was running fine for some time, then to "burn it in" I setup a bonnie++ test to run overnight. When I came to this office this morning, the errors above were posted to the console every 10 seconds or so (likely 11sec, given the message). After doing a hard reset of the computer, it wouldn't boot from the first hard drive (BIOS didn't see it). After a full power off, then on, everything works normally again. As this is a brand new system, I'm not sure if this is a kernel bug or hardware issue. As the SATA drive was unseen after the lockup, I'm suspicious it's a hardware problem. None the less, see the attached dmesg, lspci-vvnn and uname -a output. # uname -a Linux ubuntu 2.6.24-8-server #1 SMP Thu Feb 14 20:42:20 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Attachment added: "lspci -vvnn output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12670892/lspci-vvnn.log -- BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0 After "Loading Gnome Display Manager" in 7.04 Full https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
