Public bug reported:
The existing libmatchbox1 for use with Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded is not
compiled with pango support, which results in rendering garbage (from
what I have seen, a list of rectangles) when attempting to use multibyte
language strings.
You can see this by installing language-installer on a UME image, and
then running gnome-language-selector to install and set Chinese (zh_CN)
as the default language. After restarting the device and observing that
chinese tranlations are working, you will notice that any app that
attempts to write a Chinese string in the window title will result in
the window title displaying garbage (kind-a like the fonts were not
installed.)
If you change the debian/rules files to include "--enable-pango" just
after the other configurations, and build/install the debian package on
a UME image, then the window titles will now render Chinese characters.
