Have an HSQLDB database in openoffice (existing or create new) with data
in it. This is saved as a .odb file
Open a spreadsheet (new or existing).
Insert > Link to External Data
Select your database using browser. Database not brought in.
Type the database path in manually, same. In other words can't get past this
stage without cancelling.

'openoffice'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
