After upgrading Hardy beta 5 to Hardy beta 6 connectivity to hidden
SSIDs with ipw2200/2915 and atheros based cards (AR5212 chip) don't work
any more.

Done some further testing, and found the patched/changed network manager
0.6.6-0ubuntu1 was installed. After experiencing the problem on a couple
of different access points types with hidden SSIDs, I reinstalled Hardy
beta 6 from scratch just to verify that the problem wasn't caused from
the upgrades from beta 4 -> 5 -> 6.

Downgrading the network-manager to 0.6.5 from Hardy beta 5 solved the problem.
After a trying a new upgrade to NM 0.6.6 the problem was (of course) back
again. This time I then removed these tree packages (sequenced) :
1) network-manager-kde_0.2ubuntu1-0ubuntu12_i386.deb
2) network-manager_0.6.6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
3) libnl1_1.1-1_i386.deb

and then installed thees tre Hardy beta 5 packages instead :
1) libnl1-pre6_1.0~pre6-6_i386.deb
2) network-manager_0.6.5-0ubuntu16.7.10.0_i386.deb
3) network-manager-kde_0.2ubuntu1-0ubuntu7_i386.deb

Now both ipw2200/2915 based adapters as well as the atheros based were working
again
btw. didn't need to change the package - libnm-util0_0.6.6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb.

The changes between the NM 0.6.5-0ubuntu16 and the 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 seems
to have made all the these adapters unusable when connecting to hidden
SSIDs. And I can't help wondering if the main resaon maby is this, found
in the changelog for network -manager:

>network-manager (0.6.6~rc2-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
