** Description changed: I'm using 8.04 x86_64 upgraded from 7.10, but I experienced the same issue with a fresh 8.04 Alpha6 install. I've installed the nvidia restricted drivers from the restricted hardware manager. When I boot, the splash appears just fine and the system fires up. When it's time to launch gdm, however, the screen blanks and the system locks. Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, etc. do not work. I have to hit the reset button on my PC. Then, I uninstalled the nvidia-glx-new package, and installed the beta 171.06 driver using the shell script provided by Nvidia. I then encounter the same problem upon running startx, however. After another hard reset, when launching gdm I am presented with the "low-graphics" mode screen. If I try to reset it to nvidia in the xorg.conf file, xserver will not start. + + Here are the results from lspci -nn | grep VGA: + + 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation GeForce + 6200 A-LE [10de:0222] (rev a1)
