Nothing has changed in the network settings or connection speed. I - simply did a clean install to Ubuntu 8.10. All my other computers on + simply did a clean install to Ubuntu 8.04. All my other computers on Ubuntu 7.10 are even way faster and they are slower computers. All computers are hardwired to the internet and the connection is very fast. Ping time to server is 160ms. I use my machines primarily for developing websites. I am editing files on a dedicated server using sftp and gedit.
