I got this problem after upgrading, must've been a couple of days after alpha6. 
I've just recently managed to fix it:
I did several things so I don't know precisely what fixed it:

1. I downloaded the daily alternative install CD for march 17, and installed 
updates (mounting the iso and running the cdromupgrade script).
2. I restarted my router.
3. I switched my wired network setting from DHCP (had been switching it around 
when trying to fix this problem) to roaming mode.
4. I ran "sudo ifup eth0" (eth0 being my wired network alias)

>From this point I've had no more problems.

Also, I should add, the network has been working just fine in my windows
XP boot all through this, so it's probably not just that the router was
off'd.
