This seems to have regressed, since I don't get any of the system sounds
to work in current daily build 20080318.1 amd64. Sound on applications
like Totem or Rhythmbox seems to work fine though. I have two sound
cards on my system, as primary device the Intel HDA card on my mainboard
and for Skype and something like this a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live
Value.
