Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wesnoth

The different major versions of the battle for wesnoth game (1.0, 1.2,
1.4, etc.) are incompatible. So if a user starts a campaign on ubuntu
gutsy (wesnoth 1.2), then upgrades to ubuntu hardy (wesnoth 1.4), she/he
may find her/himself unable to continue to play that campaign, as the
new version doesn't support his saved games.

As for all programs with incompatible versions (e.g., gstreamer-0.8 and
gstreamer-0.10) I would recommend having separate packages for each
wesnoth version (e.g. wesnoth-1.2, wesnoth-1.4). This would allow to

a) have several versions installed at the same time
b) keep the last wesnoth version after an Ubuntu dist-upgrade

Each Ubuntu version should provide at least the current stable release
and the one before. So users could migrate during the lifetime of an
ubuntu release (i.e., start new campaigns with the new version, and
finish old ones with the old version).

** Affects: wesnoth (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
