Public bug reported:
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 6 with the latest updates as of 21st March
2008. I've noticed that over the past couple of days the machine has
been randomly dropping it's IP address. At first I had the network
configuration set to roaming mode. As this started causing a problem I
set the machine to DHCP. Again after a few hours the IP address is
dropped again. I've also set the machine to a static IP address and it
is still dropping.
I try sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart but it doesn't restore the
address, neither does a reboot.
The only way I get the IP address back is to change the configuration in
the network settings (so if it's on DHCP, I set it to a static IP, if
it's on a static IP I set it to DHCP).
My system is a Phenom X4 9600, 4GB Ram, MSI K9A2-CF Motherboard with a
Realtek RTL8111/8168B NIC. I'm running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu
with a kernel 2.6.24-12-generic, although I believe it was also
happening on kernel 2.6.24-11-generic after running a few updates (it
doesn't happen on a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 6).
