Same problem for me: ATI Radeon x1950 pro, ordered new Nvidia card though... Totem worked fine before driver update, so your analysis would seem correct. Old general driver is small though... Will Probably just wait for new card... Interesting detail. Situation was reproducible with another video player (Mplayer). Thanks for your hard work!
