Could you please update us on this bug? Does the bug still exist in the latest version of (k)ubuntu, Dapper Drake 6.06.1 ? Please try Dapper and give us an update if you can.
The Ubuntu wiki ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Acer ) doesn't have an entry for the TravelMate 1451. If you find a way to get this working if Dapper doesn't work, please consider documenting your workaround there.
