Forget my last comment, the cause for the abnormal boot behaviour of my
system was that I had messed up boot options in /boot/grub/menu.lst.

To boot my system I am using grub from my Gutsy installation and thus
the menu.lst doesn't get rewritten if I install Hardy. Some time ago I
had added 'resume=/var/cache/swapfile' to the kernel line of the Hardy
entry and it just remained there allthough I had never recreated the
swap file in later installations. I never thought this was a problem,
but if I remove this option, Hardy is booting just fine.

So everything is working now for me, sorry for the noise.

Kind regards,
Jan
