This is really an easter egg, folks: You are right, I did not see bug #203636. And no, there now no reasons to use java7 instead of openjdk6 as openjdk6 also works on amd64. However, restricted-extras 12 referred to sun-java6-jre which did not work in Firefox on amd64. I was unaware of openjdk6, as I have to confess :-(
However, ubuntu-restricted-extras 14 now fetches icedtea-gcjwebplugin, which in turn gets the openjdk-6-* stuff you mentioned. This makes Java working on amd64 on Hardy beta. I just tested it here: http://www.java.com/de/download/help/testvm.xml The folks here in the forums will be happy to hear this....
