Public bug reported:

I have just installed 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 beta , and I'm experiencing
crashes of Eclipse when using Sun JDK 1.6 from the repository:

#
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
#
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00007f8d3b01722a, pid=12707, tid=1107421520
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (10.0-b19 mixed mode linux-amd64)
# Problematic frame:
# V [libjvm.so+0x1f122a]
#
# If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
# http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp
# The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code.
# See problematic frame for where to report the bug.
#

It doesn't seem to be Eclipse-specific, but it does seem to be specific
to 64-bit, see

http://www.google.com/search?q=libjvm.so%2B0x1f122a

I fixed the issue for myself by manually installing java packages from
Gutsy (6-03-0).
