James, Not sure if these logs are still going to be of much use to you since I ended up using aptitude to "fix" and then _force_ the upgrade. The system seems to be working again now after some fighting. Hopefully something useful can be gained from these since it was an upgrade from Gutsy to the Hardy beta.
