Public bug reported:

Both the live CD ("Try on this computer without installing anything")
and an actual hard drive installation fail to bootup completely and
enter x on my new ASUS F8SA-X2 laptop. The video card is an ATI Radeon
HD 2600. It boots and gets past the initial ubuntu splash screen and
then when it's trying to start x the screen goes blank briefly three
times then just hangs. I've tried Unutunu 7.10 and the new 8.04 beta.

The screen that it hangs on and blinks at looks like this:
* Starting deffered execution scheduler atd [ OK ]
* Starting periodic command schduler crond [ OK ]
* Checking pattery state . . .                                              [
OK ]
* Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local)                           [ OK ]
_ (blinking line)

Anyone have any thoughts? Does ubuntu just have poor ATI drivers/support seems
like a lot of people are running into issues with ATI cards on laptops.
