Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis
Got new D201GLY2 with SIS 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter (rev 04) and decided to install 8.04 beta. Installation went OK, but after login screen appeared vertical noise and flickering showed up as well however resolution was OK 1280x1024. What I did was to change Ubuntu SIS driver for the one available on Intel web site: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2873&DwnldID=15443&strOSs=39&OSFullName=Linux*&lang=eng I compiled, installed new driver. Now I've got 1280x1024 without any flickering and noise. Why Ubuntu team can't add this Intel driver to its repo against the one from Xorg xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.9.3-6? This can be question to Xorg as well.
