I can confirm that nscd (combined with LDAP ?) is completely unusable under 
64bit.
I am running 2.7-5ubuntu2 in a Hardy alpha-6. The LDAP is living on a Novell 
eDirectory,
and has some ~200 users and a number of other objects.
