Hi,

I think this is fixed.

I took the hardy beta kubuntu-kde4 alternate cd
and tried to follow the steps in comment 7:

1) take a fresh disk with no lvm
2) install using automatic lvm setup and it will work
3) install on it again this time not using lvm and it will work
4) install again this time using lvm and it will fail

and on step 3 I get a message saying

"The selected device already contains logical volumes
and/or volume groups from a previous LVM installation...

Remove existing logical volume information"

and I can't find a way to proceed without doing this,
so it seems the situation in this bug report will
no longer be able to arise.

Thanks,

James
