Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

I'm using:
* ii  linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic              2.6.24-12.22
* PCMCIA UMTS Option card

When the card is inserted in the slot, nothing special happens. But
after setting up an PPP connection, I do get random lock-ups, and I mean
hard lock ups. The system does not respond to SysRq anymore.

Switching back to 2.6.22 kernel (Gutsy) the problem does not occur. More
information and debugging information I don't have at this moment, but
I'm willing to provide more information.

Below the messages from /var/log/syslog while inserting the card.
Unfortunately no kernel panic or other logs in /var/log/syslog at the
moment of the crash.
