I'm having a similar issue - my screen dims correctly when it is idle (and doesn't dim when i am using it), but as soon as it dims, becoming active again (e.g. moving the mouse, typing, doing ..anything!) doesn't restore the screen's brightness. I have to manually bring it back up to the original brightness.
