Sorry, I did not mean to "insult your intelligence". It's just a FAQ and
a common misconception. I apologize.

No, it shouldn't. The entire idea of this option is to call it from the
GNOME or KDE control center when enabling a compositing window manager,
to check whether a restricted driver needs to be installed. It should
check whether that's necessary (which can happen without root
privileges) and then call adept through kdesu (or synaptics through gksu
on GNOME) to install the missing video driver and configure it in
xorg.conf. It currently does not ask the user for confirmation whether
to really install the driver; that's bug 202898, and I'll fix it soon.
But there is no way that the entire driver installation can happen
without you entering your password in kdesu at least once.

So, please, can you describe exactly what you did? If you try it again,
please do "sudo -K" before calling "jockey-kde -C" to ensure that you do
not have a sudo ticket.
