I get the following error when I try to enable: "Desktop effects could
not be enabled"

When running from command line:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.

Checking for nVidia: present. 
Checking for FBConfig: present. 
Checking for Xgl: not present. 
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Error: Could not acquire compositing manager 
selection on screen 0 display ":0.0"
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
Window manager warning: Workarounds for broken applications disabled. Some 
applications may not behave properly.


Using the nvidia-glx-new drivers but that does not seem to be a common thing 
based on the thread. This was working under Alpha versions
