Binary package hint: gnome-menus
Related to Bug #208340.
After adding bug-buddy (Report a Problem) to the Gnome menu, and
selecting it, no application is launched.
On a clean install of Ubuntu Hardy Beta.
Steps:
1) Go to: System>Preferences>Main Menu
2) In the "Menus" column select "System Tools"
3) Check the checkbox in front of "Report a Problem"
4) Go to the gnome menu and select Applications>System Tools>Report a Problem
Result:
Application is not launched and instead a message window pops up saying "Either
--appname or --package arguments are required."
The window only has an <Ok> button as an option and that one closes the window
upon selection.
Expected result:
I would have expected to either see some application launch or a web page being
launched in Firefox.
Remarks:
It seems to me that this tool requires arguments. I would like to raise the
question as to how much sense it makes to allow a user to add an icon that
launches an application which will only work if they provide it with an
argument, which one can obviously not enter when selecting a launch icon from a
menu. Therefore, does it make sense to have a menu item like that in the first
place? Wouldn't it make more sense to take the icon out of the menu (not have
it available at all) and educate the community on its existance and providing a
simple guide on how to use the application?
I personally now consider it to be another non-working application in my
menu. (I'm simulating a user who doesn't know exactly what he's dealing
with.) But even as a more advanced user, these type of menu entries make
no sense. If it doesn't do anything useful by clicking on it, then why
is it there?
