Any chance that this gets fixed soon? Since it has been confirmed upstream for 5 years it seems unlikely that they will ever fix it?
I can confirm that the workaround works. Start openoffice using: LANG=C openoffice Then create your DDE links as appropriate. Note that the path to the linked file needs to be set using ASCII only in the DDE function.
