Metoo. VGA is an NVidia Quadro4 980 XGL. I could also reproduce it with a Geforce 8400M GS. Platform is amd64 (Hardy).
This seems to be a problem of linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic. For testing I booted this kernel in Sid: Same problem. Is there some option to tell the kernel to use the native fonts instead of installing a new one? Something like "vga=0x318" is ignored :-( .
