Thanks David. I don't know what any of that means.

I ran X -configure and the display appeared to be fine. I copied the
generated xorg.conf file to the /etc/X11 directory and rebooted the X
server but there is no difference.

After installing the Hardy Beta (clean install), I have the same problem
again. Can't get it fixed.
