Same problem here, Kubuntu Gusty amd64 with skim. Opera (9.50 Beta 2,
Build 1887) and 32-Bit Flash plugin.

Starting Opera from the shell I get a bunch of
Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libqtengine.so: wrong ELF
class: ELFCLASS64
and
Gtk-WARNING **: Loading IM context type 'xim' failed.

After a while it says:

opera: Plug-in 6315 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked
plug-ins

At this time Opera refuses keyboard input. I my case 'Plug-in 6315' is
operapluginwrapper-ia32-linux.

As a workaround you could try to start Opera with: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
QT_IM_MODULE=xim opera
(but you won't be able to input characters with skim or scim) or:
OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN=true opera

Possibly related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scim-
chewing/+bug/57081

Just my two cents,
