Binary package hint: evolution
Per your FAQ I should be able to set Evolution to play a wav sound when
new mail arrives. I recently installed Hardy Heron Beta, Ubuntu 8.04 and
tried to setup Evolution as follows:
Since Evolution 2.2, a panel notification applet via D-BUS exists.
Evolution itself is only able to play a sound file or to beep. Go to
"Edit | Preferences | Mail Preferences | General | New Mail
Notification". Note that esound must be running to be able to hear your
sound file. Evolution 2.12 will support a system tray icon to inform you
about new messages.
Problem is that I do not have New Mail Notification choices in my
preferences. I had them when I was using Gutsy Gibbon.
Evolution is version 2.22.0
