Public bug reported:

This is for Ubuntu 8.04 Beta (Hardy Heron)
This is the computer being used:
Athlon 2800+
2x 256 Ram Modules
Sony DVD-RW Drive
80 GB Harddisk
20 GB Harddisk
ASRock K7S41GX Motherboard (SiS 741GX Chipset)
ATi Raedon 9600SE (AGP 8x)

This may or may not be serveral issues, but they all seem to stem from
the same place. I have used the provided installation disk verify-er and
it has informed me that it could not detect any errors with the disk, so
I believe it is not an issue with the disk, or my hardware.

I am attempting to do a fresh format & install of ubuntu. I can make it
through all of the menus normally and with ease (allthough the language
request on the boot menu of the cd is quite annoying, that's not the
point). This is the third attempt, in the first I chose to do a full
format of the 20gb Disk, the second I attempted to use the OEM install,
and during the partition editor "Ubiquity" crashed, took me to the live
CD desktop, and restarted the install process. I had attempted to do a
full format on the 80GB disk, realized that wasn't what I wanted to do,
went back, tried to do the manual editing, realized that didn't work,
accidently hit back (taking me to the keyboard screen) and then pressed
forward again, at which point ubuntu attempted to load the partition
editor, but promptly crashed instead.

According to the Application Problem dialog "lsb_release" closed
unexpectedly (this happened during the OEM install as well). At this
point, both my mouse and keyboard have stopped functioning.

On the first attempt, the installation almost completed (Up to 97%) when
it errored and informed me it failed to remove Ubiquity, I elected to
have the installer continue and it reached 163% before informing me it
was ready to reboot. I managed to successfully log in and attempted to
install the Envy package to get drivers for my graphics card. I was then
told that the synatpic package system was misconfigured (by the .deb
package installer), and was told I could fix the issue by issuing a
command: `sudo apt-get install -f` which I did.

This command removed the ubiquity package (I assume the very same that
the installer had complained about), and I attempted to open the Envy
.deb again, only to be told that I did not have "python-central." When I
tried to get the package I was informed I did have "python-central." At
this point I was fairly stumped, and tried to run the hardware tester,
which go to the step of submitting information to launch pad, where it
crashed. I attempted to submit an error report, but the reporter
crashed, and then attempted to submit a report of the crash reporter
crashing, which didn't crash, but instead popped up a dialog which said
"This is not a genuine Ubuntu Install."
