Thank you for your bug report! This does indeed look like a sudo/root problem.
Can you explain on the sudo command "not working"? Is your password not
working? Or is the problem something else?
Try this:
1) Open a terminal (Go to Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)
2) In the terminal, write "sudo apt-get update" and enter your password when
asked
What happens if you do this? Does this work? If yes, then try following it up
with "sudo apt-get upgrade".
