Binary package hint: system-config-printer
What happened:
After entering a hostname (printer.example.com) for a printer in the IPP
'Host' field and clicking 'Find Queue' the hostname is replaced with the
IP address and portnumber (172.16.16.1:631).
What I expected:
After entering a hostname (printer.example.com) for a printer in the IPP
'Host' field and clicking 'Find Queue' the hostname remains unchanged
(printer.example.com:631).
Impact:
While this does not have an adverse effect on printing it does mean that
if the printer IP address ever needs to change then *all* the desktops
need to be reconfigured. Makes sysadmins cry.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open System -> Administration -> Printing
2. Click "New Printer" from the "Printer Configuation" toolbar.
3. Select "Internet Printing Protocol (ipp)".
4. Enter a hostname into the "Host" field.
5. Click "Find Queue" button.
6. Select a queue and click "OK".
7. The "Host" field now contains the IP address of the printer (including port
number) and not the hostname and port number.
Workarounds:
Replace the IP in step 7 with the hostname and continue to add the
printer - the hostname remains.
OR
Change the IP address in the "Device URI" on the "Settings" tab once the
printer has been added. Click "Apply".
OR
Use 'lpadmin' command line to add the printer with the correct hostname.

I am printing to a cups server and not directly to a printer, although I
think that this will make little difference.
