Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
I'm using gnome-terminal with transparency under the fglrx driver (ATI
Mobility FireGL V5200) without compiz.
To recreate:
1) I fire up gnome-terminal (with transparency) -- everything's fine.
2) I maximize the terminal window; it takes a long time (more than 1s) to
redraw and CPU is pegged the whole time. Actually, the whole screen hangs
(including e.g. my cpu/mem graphs in gnome panel).
3) Now if I type a command that has lots of output (e.g. dmesg) it takes 5-10s
or more to all get written out in short spurts -- usually this takes <1s on my
system. CPU is pegged.
4) If I switch virtual desktops and switch back to the one with the terminal,
it is also slow (1s+) to redraw that desktop -- same behavior as #2.
Ways to make it not happen:
1) Use compiz. (not an option for me since standby/hibernate then break on my
hardware, due to another, known fglrx bug)
2) Disable/re-enable transparency -- then it's OK even at new size.
