Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: synaptic
After upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy it was discovered that the synaptic
package manager does not start up after clicking on the icon in the
system menu. The package manager will launch when clicking on the
"updates available button" but will not install any packages. The
manager can not be closed and has to be terminated with the 'kill'
command from the command line. The following processes are running at
that time:
piet 9480 0.0 0.2 14792 5392 ? S 07:49 0:00 /usr/bin/gksu
--desktop /usr/share/applications/update-manager.desktop -- /usr/
root 9481 0.0 0.0 3828 1388 ? Ss 07:49 0:00 /usr/bin/sudo
-H -S -p GNOME_SUDO_PASS -u root -- /usr/sbin/synaptic --hide-mai
When running 'sudo synaptic' from the command line it will start and allows you
to select packages and to install and remove them.
