This mesa error message is reminiscent of problems I've seen before
involving diversions, and nvidia glx packages. Can you please provide
the output from these two commands?
dpkg-divert --list '*GL*'
dpkg -l '*gl*'
** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
