I'm using ubuntu hardy with kernel 2.6.24-12-generic, but I've also tried with
2.6.25-rc7.
When I plug in the headphones, the speakers are muted, as it must be. But if I
use the volume applet (or alsamixer) to mute and un-mute the volume (only
through "exclude volume", not moving the volume slider), the speakers are
activated, and emit sound.
I have an HP laptop with this audio device
