Public bug reported:

When upgrading to lighttpd (1.4.18-1ubuntu1.3) the file permissions of
/var/log/lighttpd were changed from my settings of user "other-user" to
user "www-data" causing the server to not restart due to permission
errors.

Error message: Setting up lighttpd (1.4.18-1ubuntu1.3) ...

/var/log/lighttpd/access.log

Manual fix: chown directory back to old state
