Public bug reported:

I am running Hardy 64bit up-to-date on a del xps m1330 with a T9300 cpu. Since
the upgrade the fan activity has increased considerably. The laptop starts from
a cold boot at 29°C and fan off, but as soon as it reaches ~40°C the fan kicks
in and than it goes on almost constantly.
This did not use to happen in Gutsy. The bios version (A09, the leatest at
today) staid the same since Gusty was up.

This is some ouptup I get:
:~$  cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM/trip_points
critical (S5):           104 C
:~$  cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM/temperature
temperature:             32 C
:~$  cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM/state
state:                   ok
:~$  cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM/cooling_mode
<setting not supported>
