If I put the exact same SDHC card into a USB 2.0 adapter, it works
flawlessly.  The lsusb information for that adapter is:

- I can read and write this successfully with Gutsy (and with MS-Win), but
- Hardy almost immediately starts botching the I/O, even on a tiny text
