Hi Leann,

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. I have taken the
following steps to debug this problem which were unsuccessful
unfortunately:

1) upgrade kernel and all latest updates, and reboot. Here is the output
of uname -a after reboot:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux sam-laptop 2.6.24-14-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 3 04:49:29 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

2) Test sound after reboot. Sound did not work after reboot.
3) Suspend to ram in order to verify sound is still functional after kernel
upgrade. Sound functions after suspend/resume.
4) Reboot machine
5) moved my .asoundrc.asoundconf to a temp. location. Also had to uncomment a
line in .asoundrc which referenced this file.
6) <repeated steps 2-4 with same result -- no sound after reboot, sound
works after suspend>
7) sudo rm /var/lib/alsa/asound.state; sudo reboot
8) <repeated steps 2-4 with same result -- no sound after reboot, sound
works after suspend>

I have attached my dmesg output after step 8 (post suspend/resume). As
always, please let me know if there is any more info you would like. I
appreciate your help with this.

Sam
