I had the same problem, except not with a NVidia card, but instead with an Intel i810 card. So clearly this is not just a NVidia specific problem. Since then i have been unable to restore the panel to KDE4 (even by complete removal and reinstallation) rendering KDE4 useless. I've attached my backtrace from the crash of plasma
