Public bug reported:
I wasn't able to even use Ubuntu until Gutsy because my monitor and
graphics card combination were a fatal combination (nforce2 integrated,
multisync 97f). Neither was detected correctly, and the proprietary
driver seems to fail with my card.
Then, "Screens and Graphics" was added to assist with manual
configuration. By selecting multisync 95f (97f wasn't an option) and
the nv driver with that tool I finally had a usable ubuntu system. Now,
the new version of xorg in Hardy is incompatible with that tool. So, it
has been deprecated with the suggestion that xorg be fixed directly for
problem cases.
So, I'm reporting my problem case, and I'll be happy to provide further
information as needed. I know enough to file bugs and follow simple
instructions, but unfortunately I have no programming skills.
